Early Childhood Educator

We recently celebrated National OSHC Educators Day, recognising the incredible work that our Out of School Hour Care Educators do and it got us thinking about how amazing all of the Early Childhood Educators are and what a vital role they play in the lives of our little ones.

According to the Child Care in Australia Report 2021, 45% of children aged 0-5 years use approved childcare services.

The current neuroscience research highlights that:

  • The first five years of a child’s life have a lasting impact
  • The best learning occurs in nurturing relationships
  • Children are born ready to learn
  • The brain develops through use
  • Children’s well-being is critical to brain development and learning
  • (Department of Education & Children’s Services, South Australia 2010).

This means that the early years of a child’s life are crucial for their brain development, and since a substantial portion of their time is spent in early learning centres, educators’ role in shaping their lives cannot be understated.

As educators, we need to be aware that the children we care for might be developmentally vulnerable or have experienced abuse or neglect. Regardless of their backgrounds, we must recognise and understand that our presence in their lives makes a profound difference. Every interaction we have with a child supports and nurtures their brain development, and for some children, we are the safe and consistent person they can rely on.

Our jobs are of utmost importance in Early Childhood Education and Care because we are not just caregivers; we are educators, mentors, and advocates. We care for the children, educate them, play with them, teach them, and offer them comfort when needed.

As educators, we have the power to choose every day. We can choose the language we use, spend time refining our practices, and continuously seek ways to improve. We can choose to respond with love, care, and acceptance even when faced with challenges. Ultimately, we choose relationships that lay the foundation for positive growth and development.

If you’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of little ones and seek a rewarding career in early childhood education, we invite you to explore our latest job opportunities. Together, let’s continue to shape the lives of children and build a brighter future for the next generation.
